Who is Joel Poehlmann?
A Los Angeles native born and raised, Joel has over 15 years professional experience in film and television, both above and below the line. He starred in, co-wrote, and executive produced his first feature length film at 21 and has never looked back; but he still remains true to his maverick independent filmmaking roots. Some career highlights for Joel include making his television debut on CBS on the short-lived Dr. Vegas, winning the IFC/Media Lab Assassin’s Creed short film contest with his film Ultimate Weapon, and taking action direction from Michael Bay on the set of Transformers: Dark Of The Moon (he got to shoot an assault rifle at a Decepticon).
Joel is also an accomplished writer and has written full length screenplays, award winning short scripts, television scripts, a novel, and short stories. He is constantly brainstorming and looking for his next project.
Joel’s passions extend beyond the world of acting and writing. He is an experienced dancer with over 18 years of training, specializing in hip-hop and rhythm tap. He has trained in Wing Chun Kung Fu, a traditional Chinese martial art, for over five years, earning his black belt in 2015. Joel graduated with honors from California State University, Northridge in 2008 with a BA in psychology.
